Panasonic intros three new Lumix digital cameras

Panasonic on Tuesday announced a few upcoming additions to its Lumix lineup of point-and-shoot digital cameras. The Lumix ZS10 ultrazoom upgrades to a new 14.1-megapixel MOS sensor, a 24mm ultra wide angle lens with 16X optical zoom and 1080p recording. It can also geotag photos and videos thanks to its integrated GPS sensor and related software, and take 3D photos by shooting 20 consecutive shots and using the two best for stereoscopic mode.

These can then be viewed on a 3D-capable HDTV, and the format is MPO (Multi-Picture Object)-compatible so it can be loaded on digital photo frames and printers that also support the images.

A new three-inch LCD touchscreen lets users tap to focus, and subjects can both be tagged and tracked by the focusing system.

Performance is equally important, as it can shoot 10FPS at full resolution with a mechanical shutter or 5FPS with continuous AF. At 3.5 megapixels, the camera can shoot at 60FPS.

Panasonic's Lumix Image Uploader will allow users to quickly upload photos to Facebook and videos to YouTube.

Also coming is the ZS8, with the same lens as the ZS10 but slightly lower performance. It can record just 720p videos, uses a CCD image sensor in place of the ZS10's MOS and gets a lower-resolution but still three-inch LCD.

The more compact Lumix FX78 has an improved 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD with the same features as that of the ZS10 and can record 1080p videos. It gets a 24mm but 5X zoom wide angle lens and has a 12.1-megapixel sensor. The 3D photo mode of the ZS10 is present here as well, as is the Image Uploader feature.

All three ship in March, with pricing yet to be announced. The Lumix ZS10 will be available in black, red, blue, silver, and brown, the Lumix ZS8 in black and silver and the FX78 in black, gold or white.
