Developer says Notion Ink Adam swiping e-mail code

updated 04:10 pm EST, Tue January 25, 2011

Notion Ink used open-source code for Adam e-mail

Notion Ink, maker of the Adam Tablet, is being accused of unethically borrowing the open-source K-9 Mail code as the basis for the e-mail system in the tablet. The author of the code in question, Jesse Vincent, spotted this omission, and is complaining only because there is no credit for his efforts in the app's About box.

The e-mail app does have its own skin to better match the Eden user interface. It's not known how the oversight -- if that's all it was -- will affect the operation at Notion Ink. The company will either provide proof of the code's origin other than K-9 or modify the About box to give Vincent the credit.

Under the Apache 2 license, Notion Ink is required to credit all copyrighted, patented, trademarked and attributed work.

Notion Ink hasn't yet commented on this matter. [via SlashGear]
