Second Mac OS X 10.6.7 beta adds Mac App Store to testing

updated 12:00 pm EST, Tue January 25, 2011

No known issues so far

Apple has begun seeding a second beta of Mac OS X 10.6.7 to developers. Identified as build 10J846, the delta version of the release is said to measure 372MB, slightly larger than the previous beta's 338.6MB. Testing areas have expanded to include the Mac App Store, alongside earlier focuses on AirPort, Bonjour, SMB and graphics drivers.

Neither of the betas have had any known issues, which could suggest that v10.6.7 will be a quick maintenance update dealing with problems not addressed by v10.6.6. The patch did very little beyond adding the Mac App Store, fixing just two bugs and one security hole. The first v10.6.7 beta was seeded only two weeks after v10.6.6.

    always wondered

How many developers who get the betas actually test anything apple says 'needs testing'. In theory, you expect a 3D app developer to check the graphic drivers still work. But, they themselves would need enough computers to verify against all possible graphic cards that Apple uses (which is doubtful).

And what developer is going to waste their time testing the 'app store'? It isn't like they can put content on it and then make sure it comes down. Or they'd have to buy their own apps.

Maybe they send out an email that says, this is what need testing, who's gonna volunteer to test it for us? Who knows...

I'm sure it's got some organization and process involved with it that we aren't privy to.
