New Apple Peel 520 adds data access, slims down
A new, upcoming Apple Peel 520 case has been spotted in a YouTube video (below) originating from China. Like the original, the new one turns an iPod touch into a phone thanks to its SIM card slot, but this time around a GPRS data network connection is also present. Also as before, the iPod touch needs to be jailbroken and special apps from Yosion loaded onto it to enable either phone or data functionality.
Like with the previous design, the built-in battery should extend the life of the Apple device by at least the same 4.5 hours, though it looks smaller in profile. Review copies of the case said to be already shipping to review sites in China, though when they will arrive at retailers or what it will cost hasn't been revealed. The last device cost the equivalent of about $60.
Unless the maker has bought a license to communicate with the device over its dock connector, it's also likely the new product, like the old, may be subject to legal action from Apple.
