BlackBerry Curve 2011 seen, 6.1 gets notifications

RIM's 2011 BlackBerry Curve has been spied in person and has revealed a handful of surprises. The new model, now nicknamed the Sedona, is thinner than earlier phones and uses a new EM1 battery pack to help reach its goal. BlackBerry 6.1 has also been seen for the first time in the N4BB tip and now has an Android-style notification system that details status updates at the top, regardless of which app users are in.

Only some of the hardware details were confirmed, including the 512MB of RAM and versions for both GSM and CDMA. Previous details have made it a major upgrade across the board with an 800MHz processor, a 480x360 screen and a five-megapixel camera with flash putting it technically ahead of the Torch in a few areas.

The 6.1 platform is described as "very buggy" and makes it unlikely that the phone's launch is imminent. More likely candidates for an unveil date could include the CTIA expo in late March or BlackBerry World in early May.
