System improves security for enterprise

Research in Motion has disclosed several upcoming features that will be part of its enterprise network, including a set of 'Balance' controls for devices that contain personal and corporate data. IT staff will be able to wipe only corporate data from a device, or prevent users from copying their work information over to personal e-mail or applications.

The system also provides new encryption options for media cards, along with warnings if a user is attempting to send e-mail or calendar invites to adddresses outside of an organization. A separate feature, BlackBerry Protect, provides functionality similar to Find My iPhone, enabling users to remotely wipe a lost or stolen device.

Aside from Balance and Protect, RIM also announced an update to its mobile voice system that aims to bridge the gap between mobile phones and landlines. New features include expanded support for business phone systems, and seamless switching between Wi-Fi and mobile networks.

The new features are expected to be launched sometime early this year. [via Wall Street Journal]
