OCZ backs out of RAM to focus on SSDs

updated 05:10 pm EST, Thu January 13, 2011

OCZ to quit making RAM at end of February

Memory and solid state drive maker OCZ this week announced it would no longer produce RAM modules after February, the end of its current fiscal year. Instead, the outfit will focus on its remaining solid state drive business. The decision was made after the company's memory revenue dropped by 71 percent, from $22 million to $6.2 million.

The 19-fold increase in revenue in the SSD business is a sign OCZ will focus on this market. The majority of OCZ sales are now SSDs, and they alone have exceeded historical quarterly revenue totals in all categories. OCZ makes both consumer- and enterprise-grade SSDs.

OCZ will continue to support existing RAM products in the future and honor lifetime warranties. The first products OCS made in 2002 were memory modules and heat sinks. [via PCPerspective]

    These Vertex II

drives are sweet. I have a 60Gb Vertex II in my ASUS Netbook powered by Windows 7. This thing is fast, quiet and functional. I can run all my Windows applications on it and it's the ultimate travelling device.
