Most functions left intact, sans Marketplace

Owners of HTC's HD2 handset appear to have yet another OS option, as members of a group called DarkForces Team have reportedly refined a hack that enables the device to run Windows Phone 7. The custom ROM is said to provide most of the basic WP7 functions, but with a different mapping for the buttons below the touchscreen.

The hack also lacks Windows Live support, preventing users from accessing the Windows Phone Marketplace or Xbox Live content. As an upside, the ROM reportedly brings video recording capabilities up to 720p rather than the stock VGA resolution.

Aside from Windows Phone 7, the device was recently hacked to run Android 2.2 rather than the stock Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. [via XDA-Developers]
