DirecTV TiVo may finally ship in April or May

DirecTV TiVo hardware to arrive this spring?

The planned DirecTV TiVo HD receiver that dates back to 2008 and has faced numerous delays may have been shown off to a select few at the CES show last week. The hardware may finally show up in April or May,sources speaking to Fudzilla said. Unofficial rumors also indicate the device will not contain all of TiVo's latest features.

Also allegedly not present will be multi-room support, and the device will be based on a reference Thompson design. What will be the headline feature, however, is the TiVo user interface that is said to be much better than that of DirecTV's DVR models. TiVo is rumored to be doing beta testing on the software to work out the bugs and otherwise refine it.

    SORRY TiVo

    Sorry TiVo... Too little too late. I've been with DirecTV for over 10 years and even had a TiVo for a while. You got greedy and DirecTV pulled the plug. Now your entering back into the DirecTV game with limited hardware and features? No thanks! I'm perfectly happy with my DirecTV DVR... which I will be upgrading to multi-room DVR soon. :-)

    This is very disappointing! I was really hoping that Tivo would be producing a box with satellite access. I heard a rumor that Tivo may be using the Atom Media Processor from Intel, but this news says otherwise.

    I own two series 2 standard definition boxes with life time subscriptions. I recently upgraded to HDTV and DirecTV DVR. I hate DirecTV for charging me a DVR fee, though I own the DRV. I prefer Tivo interface and features so I still use Tivo for my recording but prefer HDTV quality. Cable was more expensive prior to upgrading to HD but that is no longer the case with HD and DRV fees.

    I will investigate prices with Tivo Premier HD with cable. I may just get a Boxee or Logitech Revue and cancel DirecTV all together.

    Not Tivos fault that Directv is so greedy

    It's not Tivos fault that Directv is so greedy. They are the ones that are stopping the features from coming to their boxes. It has nothing to do with Tivo.

    Don't you guys remember the old Directv Tivos that were crippled by Directv back when? They never got all of the features because Directv did not want them.
