Roster of new Apple Stores to open worldwide in 2011

updated 12:15 pm EST, Wed January 12, 2011

Includes more German, Italian, American shops

A bevy of new Apple Stores are in the works for 2011, a report says. At least several of these are forecast to open in Italy by the middle of the year, including one in Bologna, a previously unexpected outlet in Florence, and a second Milan location. Possible addresses for the Milan and Florence stores remain unknown.

Within France a Strasbourg store is said to be in development, although the fate of a Lyon store is a mystery, as it was originally predicted to launch in September. A Dresden, Germany store is said to be on track for May, while new Spanish stores including a first in Valencia and a second in Barcelona are considered certain. Other rumored European stores include ones in Edinburgh, Scotland and Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

At home in the US Apple is said to be working on new Berkeley, Seattle, Brooklyn and Houston locations, as well as one in Murray, Utah, within the Salt Lake City area. Except for Italy and Germany, most of the new stores are expected to open late in the year, the pace reaching a crescendo in September and tailing off by the end of November. Apple has traditionally preferred to have new stores in place before the height of the Christmas shopping season.

    Remarkable

It is remarkable that, for tax purposes and greenbacks, Apple happily resides in Cork, Ireland and yet not a single genuine Apple Store exists in this virescent republic.

Why would you want an Apple Store on the Emerald Isle? The ones I've been to were less than impressive - ubertrained drones who are fantastic at selling stuff but appear surprisingly robotic.

As for Cork: get your Apple-related stuff at Stream Solutions (www.streamsolutions.ie). They'll treat you like royalty. Good people.

Shut up about Cork. That campus is essentially useless other than making instruction manuals and tech support. As for our stores, uber trained? Wow, I guess people want untrained employees at stores.

Any idea about the new location in Seattle? Downto

Any idea about the new location in Seattle? Any possibility of it being Downtown?

Bellevue Square in Bellevue has needed a bigger store for quite awhile. It's only a medium sized store compared to others now.

What does it really matter. The Apple stores are around to
    a) try to lure new users into the Apple world
    b) allow someone to try out a new Apple gizmo in case they have doubts
    c) and to give the Apple fanboy someplace he can go see others of his own kind.

You can do 'b' at any place selling Mac merchandise. The 'normal' Apple user (you know, the kind that don't make snap decisions about a person just based on whether they're using a Mac or a Dell) doesn't fit into 'a' and would be better off just ordering online and having it delivered rather than deal with the idiot crowds that hang out at the store. (It's like the new version of the 'soda shop'!)

    Amazing isn't it...

this list looks remarkably like Microsoft's Store roll out schedule.

I thought Apple was cutting edge

I see all the names of these legendary European cities, but I don't see even one store slated for Oshkosh, Wisconsin. What gives, Apple?
