Jobs may show at News Corp Daily event after all

Apple chief Steve Jobs may show at News Corp's January 19 event after all, sources said today. Citing insiders involved in prep, Yahoo said that plans to have both Jobs and Rupert Murdoch on stage for the iPad-only The Daily publication had been confirmed. The event would take place at the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco's SoMa district but had some flexibility in the date.

The appearance of Jobs might support beliefs that Apple is implementing iTunes subscriptions that could improve tablet reading adoption. It would let publishers offer discounts like they do for magazines or newspapers and give them a basic way to track readership patterns based on basic info, although it may have a plan to let customers give more info voluntarily.

Murdoch has considered the project his main attempt to revive the concept of paid news and has pledged as much as $30 million to the project. New York Post executive Jesse Angelo left to manage the iPad project and has been joined by those from inside and outside of News Corp., including the Daily Beast and Politico.

When live, The Daily should cost 99 cents per week and bring multiple updates to an issue each day. It should mix in 3D and video elements along with using a more print-style layout than on the web.
