Iomega expands storage line with new Home Media NAS

updated 03:55 am EST, Fri January 7, 2011

New NAS touts "Personal Cloud" features

While Iomega's Boxee hub and iPhone backup dock served as the primary focus of Iomega's CES introductions, the company also expanded its storage lineup with a new Home Media NAS. The latest drive offers many of the same features as its predecessors, with the addition of a new "Personal Cloud" system that links the storage device to users or other devices via the Internet.

Most of Iomega's current NAS lineup already supports remote access features, however the new system appears to be improved for easy setup and expanded compatibility. Users can follow a guide for initial configuration and invite up to 250 users to access the stored content. Transferred data is also protected by AES 128-bit encryption.

The Home Media NAS will ship this month in 1TB and 2TB variants for $170 and $230, respectively. The 'cloud' system does not require subscriptions to third-party services.
