Huawei Ideos X5, U9000 Android phones at CES

A stop by the Huawei booth at CES gave us a chance to check out the company's upcoming Android smartphones. The flagship U9000 will sports a 1GHz processor and a large, bright 4.1-inch LCD touchscreen while the midrange Ideos X5 has a 600MHz CPU and a smaller 3.8-inch capacative touchscreen. Either supports multi-touch inputs.

The two also share the Android 2.2 operating system and a 5-megapixel camera that allows for 720p video recording and local playback. The U9000 alone has an HDMI output, however. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS sensors are common. The U9000 supports 850-, 1,900- and 2,100Hz HSDPA and quad-band GSM frequencies.

The Ideos X5 will arrive first, expected sometime in January, likely under AT&T's network, we were told, even though the settings screen showed T-Mobile as a carrier. The U9000 will arrive later this winter, or possibly in the spring, and will likely get a proper name to add to or replace its model number.

Prices for either are yet to be determined.
