New notebooks based on new Core processors

Toshiba has introduced several new notebooks that have been added to the company's Satellite and Qosmio groups. The Satellite E305 represents one of the many new notebooks based on Intel's second-generation Core i5 processor. A 14-inch display and chiclet keyboard both integrate LED backlighting, while the back of the screen is protected by an aluminum cover.

The E305 also brings a USB 3.0 port, Intel's wireless display technology, a WiMAX modem, and a hybrid drive that pairs a 500GB disc with 4GB of flash memory. Users can also connect an MP3 player and listen to content through the notebook, even if it is powered down.

Other new Satellite notebooks include the A660, M640, and L650. The 15.6-inch A660 pairs NVIDIA discrete graphics with Core i3 or i5 CPUs, while the M640 features a Core i5 processor and a 14-inch display. The L650 offers a 15.6-inch display, 640GB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, and a variety of color options.

Aside from the midrange notebooks, Toshiba has introduced the Qosmio X505 for gaming or entertainment. The device is built with the latest Core i5 or i7 processors, NVIDIA discrete graphics with 1.5GB of dedicated memory, and an 18.4-inch display capable of displaying 3D content.

Most of the new offerings are scheduled to arrive on the market sometime next month, while the E305 will come later in the spring. The basic Satellite notebooks start at $685, while the X505 Series is available in packages priced as low as $1,299.
