Microsoft: Ballmer expected to tease Windows 8 at CES today

updated 04:25 am EST, Wed January 5, 2011

New UI will be absent, but new feature demoed

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will tease Windows at the Microsoft Keynote at CES later today, according to a report. Ballmer will make a number of announcements regarding Windows Phone 7, Xbox and Windows. The main announcement will reportedly center on a version of Windows that will run on ARM microarchitecture, as has been rumoredin recent days. Sources familiar with the matter are also predicting that Ballmer will demo a new feature of Windows 8 for the first time.

During the Gartner Symposium last October, Ballmer suggested that Windows 8 would be Microsoft's "riskiest product yet." What remains unclear is whether this could involve a radical overhaul of the OS. According to the Winrumors report, Ballmer will not reveal any elements of the UI, but will demonstrate a new functionality as he had with Windows 7 multi-touch capabilities at the All Things Digital conference back in May 2008. At that time, Ballmer showcased the feature without revealing any UI elements.

Also expected to be announced by Ballmer is that ARM chip fabricators including Nvidia, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments have entered into agreements with Microsoft in order to produce chipsets that will be compatible with the slate optimized version of Windows 8.

    - Never tease Happy Fun Windows.

He's also expected to recap the phenomenal 100% growth in the number of Microsoft Retail Stores in the past year. "In just one year, we've doubled the number of our stores!"

    in a few hours

we will see if these rumours are true or not.

but one thing I notice is that there's a lot of hate from the commenting area. Mac fans are real predictable.

I was honestly hoping that Apple would spring

news that they'd ported OSX to ARM processors. There was some talk of a quad-core ARM11MPCore processors on the horizon and I'd like to see Apple start replacing some of the low-end notebooks with that. The thing is that I don't know if it's easy to port OSX applications to ARM processors. One of the main reasons that Microsoft wasn't going to port Windows to ARM was because all the Windows applications would have to be redone. I sure hope Microsoft doesn't beat Apple to the punch on the Windows to ARM port.

You know, you don't have to come to this site. I don't see any hate here, just having fun with MS's wonderful reputation.
