Video surfaces of Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

updated 04:15 pm EST, Wed January 5, 2011

Codenamed Anzu, has Gingerbread, 4.2in screen

A pair of teaser videos and several product photos have surfaced for Sony Ericsson's new flagship Android phone. Referred to by its codename Anzu or as the Xperia X12, the video seems to confirm that the successor to the Xperia X10 will be marketed as the Xperia Arc. The phone has a distinctively arched backplate, bringing its thickness to a scant 0.35in (9mm) at its thinnest point. Overall, the phone measures 4.9 by 2.5 inches, and carries a 4.2-inch, 854x480-pixel touchscreen. The source claims the handset will ship with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), and will be upgradable to Honeycomb when it becomes available.

The phone features Sony Mobile BRAVIA, which provides realtime video upscaling and noise reduction for clearer, brighter video playback. The handset's camera will be equipped with an 8-megapixel Exmor R sensor for better low-light performance.

Sony Ericsson has hinted that it will announce the handset at a press conference at CES2011 on the evening of January 5. A full introduction isn't expected until the upcoming Mobile World Congress, where Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg has said he wants to create a lot of "noise." Sales are anticipated to begin in the first quarter of 2011. Price for the Xperia Arc has not been announced, but should be in the same range as the Xperia X10. [via gagadget]
