HTC HD2 gets Android OS thanks to first such hack

updated 01:25 pm EST, Fri December 31, 2010

First HTC HD2 Android 2.2 ROM developed

The relatively popular HTC HD2 smartphone has been hacked to allow users to install the Android 2.2 operating system on it rather than the standard Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. The process is outlined over on the XDA-developers forum and was created by DFT. It's being called the first NAND ROM for Android on the HD2, allowing users to install the Google OS onto the handset's internal memory.

The creator said he aimed to make a nearly perfect copy of the standard HTC Desire ROM. Hopefuls will need the MAGLDR 1.09 or newer bootloader to perform the installs and both LEO512 and LEO1024 versions of the HD2 handset are supported.

Those who wish to revert back to Windows Mobile 6.5 need to flash an official ROM using the ROM Upgrade Utility. [via AndroidCommunity]
