Last-last-minute deals: New Year's iOS App Blowout

updated 06:45 pm EST, Fri December 31, 2010

25 iPhone, iPad apps on sale through January 1st

For the third year in a row, a band of iOS developers have thrown up a web page with a collective sale on 25 apps for the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad that lasts through to the end of January 1st. Called the New Year's App Blowout, it features a variety of programs all dramatically reduced in price, including some reduced to no charge at all. This is not a "bundle" deal where buyers have to get them all -- each app can be bought individually at the sale price.

A selection of the titles on offer include Battle for Wesnoth (normally $5, now $1), Twilight Golf (now free, was $3), Steampunk Hockey (was $2, now $1 for both the iPhone and iPad HD editions), Daniel Johnston's "Hi, How Are You" game (normally $3, now $1) and DisplayPad (now $3, was $5). Selecting any title on the sale's web page will take buyer to the app's page in iTunes, where they can purchase the app at the sale price.
