VoX members can use Nimbuzz with iPhone
The iPhone version of Nimbuzz, a popular IM and VOIP calling app, has added VoX Communications as a SIP/VOIP partner for outgoing calls. Existing VoX customers can download and use Nimbuzz for iPhone as a mobile version of their home account, allowing them to make calls to any phone. VoX will now occupy the second spot on the SIP providers list that users can choose from within the app, behind Nimbuzz's own NimbuzzOut service.
Nimbuzz for iOS (free) claims over 30 million users and works both as an IM tool covering many communities -- Facebook, Yahoo, Windows Live Messenger, AIM, Google Talk, Twitter, MySpace, ICQ and others. As of November, Nimbuzz no longer supports Skype accounts, however, owing to a dispute between the two companies. Nimbuzz also offers its own NimbuzzOut VOIP calling, and provides a list of other VOIP providers to allow customers of those services to receive and make calls on their existing account.
Nimbuzz' popularity stems from the enormous range of other devices it works with -- in addition to the iPhone app, versions of Nimbuzz are available on nearly every mobile phone platform in existence, including Symbian, Android, J2ME, Blackberry and most "feature" cell phones, as well as a web version and clients for Mac and Windows-based computers.
VoX Communications, based in Orlando, Florida, is a well-established VOIP provider. Linking a VoX account to Nimbuzz gives the users a second phone number, second voice mailbox and VoX's normal calling plan options that work over both 3G and Wi-Fi networks. The company is also working with another IM/VOIP app provider, Fring, to bring its services to those users.
The Nimbuzz iPhone app with VoX Mobile Out calling can be downloaded from VoX's web site, or users can point their mobile browsers to voxmobile.get.nimbuzz.com. Mac and Windows users can create an account with VoX and then download a client for their platforms from the web site. The app requires iOS 3.0 or higher and a microphone for calling.
