HTC Scribe trademark hints at Android tablet

HTC's Honeycomb-based Android tablet may have received its final name through a new US Patent and Trademark office filing. An application on December 26 for a "Scribe" name refers to the name as belonging to a "handheld wireless device, namely, a tablet computer." It's implied by the name that handwriting is involved, but none of HTC's mainstream smartphones of the past two years have included a pen.

The tablet is believed to be a flagship for Honeycomb, also known as Android 2.4, and would share the Motorola Droid Xoom's use of an NVIDIA Tegra 2 with a 1280x720 display, 2GB of internal storage and a bundled 32GB microSDHC card.

HTC is considered to be one of the favored Google partners and may have its tablet ready as soon as February. [via PocketNow]
