IN Media intros Windows 7 Tablet PC with iPad look

TV set-top box maker IN Media today dipped into tablets by launching its plainly titled Windows 7 Tablet PC. The computer is consciously designed to resemble an iPad with elements of the iPhone, including an Apple-style home button that has no apparent purpose, but has typical netbook specs inside. A 1.66GHz Atom, a 160GB hard drive and a front webcam are joined by HDMI, an SD slot and USB for expansion.

A demo video of the tablet, however, appears to highlight many of the problems of most current Windows 7 tablets. The promo clip touts the ability to "browse your email anywhere" but shows that the tablet is using the stock onscreen keyboard and thus makes it impossible either to thumb type or to replicate a notebook's typing speed. It further refers to having multi-touch "just like any tablet" and primarily pushes standard Windows features such as support for Flash, PowerPoint and Skype.

The software is given an implied advantage over the current iPad, but the clip hasn't shown Flash video performance or given an estimate for battery life.

The tablet is due to arrive in early 2011 in both the US and Asia and will make price its main selling point at $399, only slightly above regular netbooks.

    That's one cheap video

The sound is metallic, the video is low quality -not to mention the tablet- and looks like it was made and written by a 12 year old.

    Watch It, Rolando_jose ...

... I know a couple of 12 year olds who would be very insulted! :-)

And they could probably do a better job designing and implementing a tablet OS. ( No :-) )

    Basically, it's a netbook without a keyboard

using standard netbook components. It appeared to be sluggish and there's no way it's going to get decent battery life using standard netbook parts. Lots of these Windows tablets made by many different companies are being sold in China that cost less than this. This is nothing special.

    Unactivated Windows?

Anyone else notice some text in the lower-right corner of the screen? That's usually where the "Windows is not activated" warning goes.

How can Apple compete against that? Did you see the ferocity in which he was checking his email? The graceful motion of the window moving..

Stunning! I cant wait to get one of these babies! Im going to run down to CVS and see if there are anymore on an end cap...

I also hear it has a .75 hr battery life. 1.2hrs if you don't login. Thats OK because I can RDP into it and then I can have a real computer running inside my Hemorrhoid phone!

iPad sucks! None of my friends have one, and the one kid who did went away to College! Some stupid place called Yale I think.. HaHa, he cant hang with us and play games and root Hemorrhoid phones.

iPad doesnt even have a keyboard and VGA out. What a piece of c***!

    Good God y'all

That was a terrible-looking (and sounding) demo. I kept waiting for the "gotcha! we're just kidding!" but it didn't happen.
