Meizu M9 teardown reveals components similar to Galaxy S

updated 08:35 pm EST, Wed December 22, 2010

Dissection shows 1GHz ARM processor, 802.11n

Several days after the Meizu's M9 handset arrived on the market in China, the device has already been dissected to reveal its internal components. The teardown shows hardware very similar to the Samsung's Galaxy S-series handsets, which share the same 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 "Hummingbird" processor, despite earlier reports suggesting the M9 utilized a slower 800MHz chip.

The rest of the internal hardware includes chips for a full range of common smartphone features including 802.11n Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. The handset otherwise offers a facade similar to the iPhone, even following Apple's choice of a 960x640 display.

Recent reports suggest the M9 outperforms the Nexus One with Android 2.1, however it falls behind the Galaxy S and Motorola Droid X. The device, which has been referred to as an iPhone clone, uses a custom UI that mimics visual features of the iOS dialer, browser and messaging interface. [via Meizu forums and]

    Samsung will suffer first

Most likely the Samsung Galaxy S will be the most to suffer as this phone will be cheaper but looks the same. Probably could do with a name change though. Perhaps the Cosmos S.
