Google says Android 2.3 for Nexus One still due in weeks

updated 12:35 pm EST, Tue December 21, 2010

Google confirms Android 2.3 for Nexus One coming

Google has officially reiterated over Twitter that the Android 2.3 update for the Nexus One is coming in the next few weeks. The over-the-air update, nicknamed Gingerbread, will bring native Wi-Fi calling, a faster virtual keyboard, download manager and other features to the original stock Android phone. There will also be an improvement in power management when multitasking, a download manager and a higher-contrast UI.

What the Nexus One won't get, due to its hardware specifications, is front-camera support, NFC wireless payment options and gyroscope motion tracking. The Nexus One uses a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU and is manufactured by HTC, though remains entirely Google branded as it was a flagship phone for the Android OS when released.
