Avatron unveils Print Sharing for iOS devices

updated 10:45 pm EST, Tue December 21, 2010

Focuses on printing features, compatibility

Avatron has released Print Sharing, a $3 app that prints wirelessly to a wide range of printers, including shared and network printers. It works with both Apple's own AirPrint or its own print engine, and includes options not found on most other AirPrint apps such as dual-sided printing, page order, choice of paper trays and more -- depending on the printer model. "Print Preview" is available to all printers.

Print Sharing can print wireless to any Mac connected printer via printer sharing, or a Linux machine configured with CUPS. AirPrint-ready printers such as those from HP are also directly supported.

Users can print from Apple apps like Mail and Safari on iOS devices by selecting a document and tap the "Open in Print Sharing" button. Regular images or plain text can be copied to the clipboard and launch the Print Sharing app. The app prints more directly than most competitors. The company also makes Air Display, which allows using the iPad as a second display.
