Novatel USB551L to give Macs Verizon LTE support

Verizon will have Mac support for its new LTE-based 4G network in the near future as a leak of marketing material has given away its plans on Monday. Novatel is due to launch its own USB stick for the service, the USB551L, which is explicitly listed as "Mac compatible." No mention is made in the Engadget tip of an EVDO fallback, however, suggesting it may lose its connection outside of current 4G coverage areas.

The modem design will be basic, based on a retail mockup accompanying the documents, and will mostly differentiate itself with a pivoting USB connector. A release schedule was absent in the leaked material, but it comes just weeks before Verizon's event at CES, where new 4G devices should be on show, and could make the early January expo the first primary opportunity.
