Clamcase grants iPad notebook-style keyboard

updated 11:35 am EST, Mon December 20, 2010

Includes separate battery, swiveling holder

Originally announced in May, Clamcase has finally begun selling its self-titled accessory for the iPad. When attached, the case effectively transforms an iPad into a netbook through the inclusion of a folding lid with a built-in keyboard. To allow the tablet to be used more conventionally, the display holder can be swiveled and folded back over the keyboard.

The keyboard includes 14 special function keys and its own lithium-ion battery, with a matching battery life indicator. The Clamcase is currently priced at $119, but should eventually go up to $149. Shipping, which begins in January, will initially be restricted to US addresses.

    Good idea

This will be great for long typing situations in areas where setting up a dock would be cumbersome. (e.g. airplane, train)

    Gee

It looks like a real netbook now. Not as functional though.

    Another netbook wanna-be.

    It had to happen

With all the attempts to turn good netbooks into bad tablets, someone had to find a way to turn a good tablet into a bad netbook. Next, a build of ubuntu that can be installed on the iPad.
Talk about completely missing the point.
