Deal mimics Radio Shack sale
Warehouse retailer Sam's Club is planning to offer the iPhone 4 for as low as $147 this week, a leaked memo indicates. The deal is restricted to members, and also requires that a phone be tied to a two-year AT&T contract. Under a similar arrangement, the iPhone 3GS is being sold for $47. Both discounts should expire after Christmas Eve.
The plan appears to take after Radio Shack, which recently offered the iPhone 4 for just $149. iPhone sales are rare; Apple and third-party vendors are generally resistant to selling devices for anything less than normal retail pricing. By contrast, even refurbished iPads have been put on discount in recent weeks in the run-up to the holidays.
