Fanhattan aggregates free, paid web video in TV-sized UI

Vuze unveils Fanhattan video portal

BitTorrent app creator Vuze today gave a quick preview of Fanhattan, a new company and home theater portal in the vein of Boxee or Plex. The project is based on the Open Movie Database and aggregates not just regular, free web video but also paid content. With services such as Amazon VOD and Netflix, it will not only get and let users search through metadata but allow a purchase or a rental without having to exit the interface.

The app will also collect music, photos and other content. A framework exists for third-party apps that should integrate with other parts of the service, such as linking music subscriptions to a movie.

Fanhattan should go live as a web-based client in January but will be followed by dedicated Mac and Windows PC apps at an undefined point in the future. The release is intended for TV aspect ratios and should work well in home theater PCs, though there's no immediate suggestions that Fanhattan will follow Boxee into producing hardware of its own. Vuse sucks

If it runs anything like Vuze, you'll want to stay away from this thing.
