Misa Digital touch screen digital guitar up for pre-order

updated 05:15 am EST, Wed December 15, 2010

Opens up a world of palettes for guitarists

The Misa Digital Kitara multi-touch guitar synthesizer is now available for pre-order. While it might appear to be more a toy than an instrument at first glance, the Kitara is designed as a genuine digital alternative to a real guitar. It consists of three main components including a full fretboard, a multi-touch touchscreen and an onboard polyphonic synthesizer pre-loaded with sounds and effects.

However, instead of strumming strings, each fret contains six buttons designed for playability while the player touches or brushes their fingers over the 8-inch touchscreen to initiate sounds and textures. The simplest screen setting replicates six strings that can be "picked" by touching each virtual string. Multiple effects and sounds can then also be combined for the instrument to be played in a more conventional way, or entirely differently by mapping sounds and effects to the x- and y-axes of the screen.

The Misa Digital Kitara will ship in April. Pre-orders are being taken now on the Misa Digital web site starting at $849 for the standard model and topping out at $2,899 for the limited edition aluminum version.
