First Look: Poster posts pics to Facebook, Flickr

updated 09:35 pm EST, Wed December 15, 2010

Interface makes multi-service uploads a breeze

Reinvented Software, makers of Together and Feeder, has unveiled a new program, called Poster -- a modest, elegant photo and video uploading client to Flickr, Flickr Pro and Facebook. It features some basic functions (rotating and resizing photos before upload), but focuses on letting users view and upload multiple pictures and take advantage of each site's particular strengths.

Facebook users can post not just to one's profile, but to other pages the user administers. Flickr users can auto-complete tags, submit photos to various groups, tag people, create or choose sets and moderate photos. Plug-ins for iPhoto and Aperture are provided so that users can export selected photos from either program directly into Poster.

The program requires OS X 10.6 or higher and sells for $20. A 15-day trial can be downloaded that features in-app license purchasing.

    Yeah

Because iPhoto that ships with every Mac doesn't do this.

    Oh, wait...

    Yeah, but...

iPhoto does include Flickr publishing, but it is rudimentary to say the least. If you actually tried Poster before posting your comment, you would know that Poster lets you create Flickr sets, add to existing sets, add and set tags, change privacy settings of your settings, and a whole lot more. And it can do this on just some of the photos or all of them at once on a moment's notice.

For anybody who is half serious about their Flickr account, this is the best uploader bar none, including the one you can from Flickr, web based or not.

Oh, and iPhoto creates those annoying smart albums when you upload to Flickr. This doesn't.
