Google TV gets first update with bug fixes, more

Google has released the first software update for its Google TV platform. It includes the usual bug fixes but, more importantly, brings four new major features highlighted by a revamped Dual View feature. Viewers can now resize and move the TV portion of their interface wherever they please. The initial launch firmware had it fixed in place and would frequently block the web view while trying to use the picture-in-picture mode.

Movie search has also been improved, returning all movies associated with the title currently being watched. Users can then watch those movies, whether from TV, Netflix or Amazon VOD. Clicking on an actor's name in the movie will also return other movies they've been in.

The Netflix app has been updated and now lets users search, browse and watch any movie in the Netflix streaming catalog. The titles on DVD can also be added to the mail queue. Personalized recommendations based on what users have watched in the past are also there.

Newfound support for a new Google TV Remote app that's now in Android Market is also in the update. It sports a voice search capability for content and allows users to manually change channels or access the DVR functions. Phone owners can now share videos directly from the phone instead of having to rely on Internet sources.

The 218MB update has started to roll out this week and is already being posted for the Logitech Revue.
