Add-on gives Layout Mode a visual design makeover

ISO Productions has released Theme Studio for FileMaker Pro, allowing users and developers a more visual way to design FM layouts, incorporating Filemaker's own options into a design program stocked with common UI elements for Mac, Windows and iPhone layouts. The software is a successor to the company's previous Theme Library and represents both a new approach and new distribution model for additional design resources.

With Theme Studio, FM layout designers can merge or use icons (including resources for open-source icon collections), drag-and-drop layout templates, and change elements, colors and gradients. The software runs within the Filemaker development environment itself and does not require exiting FileMaker Pro, meaning the entire design process can now be handled within FM itself.

The software still requires a (free) account at FileMakerThemes.com to download the available resources and to make it easier to purchase future or additional layouts. The program includes elements and layouts for iOS devices at no extra charge. Once downloaded, elements can be dragged into place and modified to create layouts intended for FileMaker Go deployments.

The add-on runs with any version of FM Pro from v9 through v11 on either Macs or Windows PCs. Theme Studio for FileMaker Pro costs $157 but is currently on sale for $20 off. The annual "theme pack" membership is $99, but when bought together with the program is reduced to $77 for the first year. The Theme Pack includes 25 current themes along with 12 new ones, delivered one per month throughout 2011. A demo version of the software is available.
