Samsung, Toshiba, Acer readying Tegra 2-based tablets?

Platform expected to account for half of tablets

NVIDIA's Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip (SoC) components are reportedly surging in popularity, as companies ready their next tablets to be introduced in 2011. Acer, ASUS and Samsung are each developing tablets based on the platform, industry sources have told DigiTimes. Toshiba was mentioned in the leak should already be using the chip in the Folio 100.

A number of Tegra 2-based tablets are already on the market or expected to ship soon. The eLocity A7 and Advent Vega tablets were recently released, while the Notion Ink Adam is available to pre-order. Separate reports point to a Motorola tablet and LG smartphone in the works.

Most of the recent information regarding Tegra 2 customers does not come as much of a surprise, however Samsung's presence suggests the company may be departing from its current strategy of developing its own hardware platform for tablets. The company has yet to confirm that it will produce tablets built with Tegra 2 chips.

Strong graphics performance and Flash support have been credited with helping to push Tegra 2 sales, while NVIDIA is said to be offering attractive discounts to promote the platform. The chips are expected to account for half of all ARM-based tablet shipments in 2011, sources claim.

    How can...

How can anyone think that Tegra 2 is going to account for half of all ARM tablets in 2011? The iPad is an ARM tablet and unless they decide to go with Tegra 2 (doubt it) then maybe half of all Android tablets which will be lucky to hit 25%, will be Tegra 2.

I'm thinking they expect a large flooding of the market from multiple tablet manufacturers in 2011.
