HTC Evo Shift 4G may reach Sprint January 9

HTC Evo Shift 4G gets image, Jan 9 ship date leaks

HTC's Evo Shift 4G has been given a more formal image leak and a tentative ship date. A post today on the SprintUsers forum has shown the Android slider with its keyboard extended but still in a third-party case. The screen appears to be a pasted-on rendering, but the front doesn't appear to have a camera and suggests the Evo Shift 4G might be Sprint's budget alternative to the Epic 4G and Evo 4G.

The timing may also have been locked down through a leak of future devices. Apart from some feature phones and an unknown Novatel 4082 hotspot due on January 30 -- possibly a WiMAX-enabled MiFi -- a mystery HTC device known as the A7373 has been listed as shipping January 9. AndroidCentral didn't have independent confirmation with the post, but the timing would support an introduction at or near CES with shipment on the Sunday of the same week, keeping in step with Sprint's preferred Sunday release schedules.

The Evo Shift 4G doesn't have many details so far apart from its WiMAX connection, but should have a 3.7-inch touchscreen and may be somewhat related to the Desire Z and T-Mobile G2, the former of which has been unofficially linked to the A7373 badge. Without a front camera and with such close timing, it's more likely to use Android 2.2 at first and upgrade to Android 2.3 later on. [via PocketNow]
