Xbox 360 outsells Wii in November, PS3 relegated to third

updated 05:05 am EST, Fri December 10, 2010

Nintendo overall winner when DS sales included

The Microsoft Xbox 360 outsold the Nintendo Wii in November with sales of 1.37 million Xbox 360s sold against 1.27 million Wiis. The Sony PS3 lagged well behind with 530,000 consoles sold. However, when the Nintendo's DS hand-held console is added to the equation, it Nintendo shifted a total of 2.7 million consoles sold in November, which also comprised 1.5 million sales of the DS. Sony has not made its sales figures for the PSP public at the time of writing.

When compared with its sales this time last year, the Xbox 360 is up 67 percent over its November 2009 sales figures indicating that its redesigned 360 console and its new Kinect peripheral have had a substantial impact in boosting its sales. Nintendo held steady against its November 2009 performance recording 10,000 more sales this year than at the same time last year.

Sony, however, sold 25 percent fewer PS3 consoles this November when compared with its November 2009 performance. In November 2009, Sony sold nearly 200,000 more consoles than it did last month representing a disappointing performance given the recent launch of its competing Move motion-sensing accessory.
