Synk upgraded to v7, makes live sync its centerpiece

updated 06:00 pm EST, Thu December 9, 2010

Rebuilt engine and UI, filesharing also

Decimus Software has updated their flagship backup and synchronization software Synk to v7, taking their previous ZeroScan feature and enhancing it into a live sync engine that continuously updates backups. The software still features its easy but customizable "scripts" for creating a custom backup, its multi-way and one-to-many syncing, but now offers a continual "RAID-like" backup that means files are instantly and always in sync.

The software is designed to be unbothered by events such as dismounting external drives or changing sync targets, and doesn't need to take valuable time to "re-scan" drives for changes before syncing. It features a Mail-like rule-configuring option, and archiving of changed or deleted files.

The program now includes a set of templates using common configurations, now with easier exclusion controls and increased tuning of attributes. Synk v7 now adds SynkSharing, a new custom filesharing protocol that increases compatibility and sync behavior over other protocols.

Snyk v7 now requires OS X 10.6 or later, and comes in two versions, Standard ($40) and Pro ($60). Upgrades from previous versions are $30 and $45 respectively, but purchasers after June 1st can get the upgrade free. A 21-day trial version is available.
