Now uses HTTP Live Streaming in iPhone app
MyTunesRSS is an easy-to-configure private music and video server that allows users to enjoy their media collections on other internet-connected computers or devices like game consoles or mobile phones. Codewave Software has released v4 of MyTunesRSS, which incorporates a new web-based server admin interface -- allowing the program to be configured remotely. It also now features HTTP Live Streaming support, and is on sale in the month of December.
Users can not only stream content from their home computer to a remote machine, but can download selections to the local volume. The program features smart playlists, Last.fm community integration and on-the-fly transcoding. New in version 4 are some configurable Flash players that can optionally be used, as well as improvements in what content is accessible to the user and imports from iTunes and watch folders. A free iPhone client app is also available that uses HTTP streaming.
MyTunesRSS is written in Java, and thus works on Mac, Windows and Linux using Java 1.5 or higher. It is currently on sale for $8 instead of its usual $20 price. A 30-day trial version is available.
