Nexus One to get Android 2.3 in next few weeks

Android 2.3 coming to Nexus One in 2010

Reports on Monday that Google has released Android 2.3 for the Nexus One have been premature, Google developer advocate Reto Meier tweeted. The OS update isn't coming to the original stock Android phone until sometime in the next few weeks, Meier indicated. The update, nicknamed Gingerbread, promises to bring with it native Wi-Fi calling, faster virtual keyboard support, a download manager and more.

It will also bring improved power management in multitasking, a download manager and higher contrast changes to the user interface, among other, smaller enhancements. Nexus One owners will primarily miss out on hardware-specific features like front camera support, NFC wireless and gyroscope motion tracking. [via BGR]
