Lufthansa intros in-air Wi-Fi for cross-continent flights

updated 05:20 am EST, Sun December 5, 2010

Wi-Fi on flights extends beyond domestic routes

German international airline carrier Lufthansa will be the first to introduce onboard internet for international flights from the US. Services departing from New York, Detroit and Atlanta into Frankfurt will have wireless internet expected to be fast enough to connect to a VPN and send large attachments. However, it is not clear exactly how much bandwidth each passenger will have access to.

Passengers will also have access to Lufthansa's new Cloudstream service as well. This allows passengers to browse the net prior to departure allowing them to cache favorite sites. The pages will be stored in a virtual folde that can be then accessed for later viewing. [via Gadling]

    Re-Introduces, you mean

Lufthansa had in-flight wifi (branded Flynet) on trans-Atlantic flights as far back as 2004. It was powered by Connexion by Boeing, and I used it regularly at least into 2006.
