Barnes & Noble launches SDK v1.0 for Nook Color

Barnes & Noble has now released a software development kit for the Nook Color e-reader. The Nook Color runs on Android 2.1 and is compatible with the Android SDK, but the book giant has released Nook SDK 1.0 to help developers create apps for the device. Included in the first SDK are an Android Virtual Device Emulator, Android Debug Bridge (ADB) configuration settings and sample code.

Developers will also find PDF documentation for files and components, including Developing for Nook Color, Usability Basics for Nook Color and Specifications for Nook Color. The SDK add-on uses the Android SDK and AVD Manager to perform the installation.

Unlike a pure Android device, Barnes & Noble has a curated app store of its own and is focusing on apps tuned to the Nook's seven-inch screen and its nature as an e-reader.
