Kaleidescape intros 'budget' DVD Movie Server

updated 06:55 pm EST, Thu December 2, 2010

System stores 225 DVDs or 2,500 CDs

Kaleidescape has introduced a new DVD Movie Server, the Cinema One, that represents the company's first system priced around $5,000. The single-component server, which replaces the Mini System, is capable of storing 225 DVDs or 2,500 CDs. Users can play any content instantly, without having to locate the physical disk or navigate DVD menus.

The system also provides a variety of browsing and search functions, allowing users to sort content by title, actor, director, genre, year-of-release, or running time. Two remotes are included, with one built specifically for toddlers and children. When the child's remote is used, the interface even switches to a simpler layout.

The Cinema One supports two independent music zones, enabling video playback in one room while audio tracks are being played in other areas of the home. The device is said to be compatible with any other Kaleidescape component for more storage or sharing with a second television.

The Cinema One is now available in the US and Canada for an MSRP of $4,995.

    DVDs?

I was very interested in this at first, until I realized I don't use DVDs anymore, they are totally outdated technology. I think I would have a hard time even justifying this for bluray as even that will not be around too long in my house with the way TV seems to be heading (streaming over the internet).
