Dish Remote Acccess live TV viewing app official for iPad

updated 09:35 am EST, Wed December 1, 2010

Dish live TV viewing app reaches iPad

Dish Network today formally launched a new version of its Remote Access app for the iPad (free, App Store) to enable the promised live TV viewing option. Those with either the Sling Adapter on a ViP 722 series DVR or a ViP 922 Slingloaded DVR can watch their satellite TV from any high speed Internet connection, including on a sufficiently fast 3G link. Dish didn't mention what quality it would be, although standard definition is more likely.

Regardless of the connection, the app can still schedule DVR recording and can directly manage the DVR, such as deleting shows or setting priorities for a ViP 622 box or newer. The program guide when available lets users search by meta data like actors and shows content as far away as nine days ahead.

The app officially needs iOS 4 or higher. A Sling Adapter if necessary has a one-time $99 price.

    C'mon

This may be a beautiful app and no disrespect to those who worked on it, but it uses an extraordinarily silly and convoluted way to get content from a content provider (NBC for example) to a mobile device.

It's only in an industry where the major players have too much control that such convolutions are possible.
