Virgin's Project magazine official, iPhone and Android due

Virgin launches Project iPad mag with plans

Virgin today formally launched Project magazine, a publication it claims is the first purely digital magazine available. The title (App Store) focuses on a mix of design, entertainment and technology and uses the iPad's nature to provide both interactive and live content. Unlike Wired and other rivals, new articles and features arrive over the course of an issue, giving readers an incentive to come back.

The magazine also tries to be relatively aggressive on price and is charging $3 per month.

Although limited to Apple's tablet for now, the company has also promised a version for Android tablets as well as an iPhone edition. The iPhone will get a unique mapping feature that will show the "coolest places in the world" from readers, although it's not known how this will work. A limitation to a phone likely points to users marking positions using GPS.

A potential rival, News Corp's The Daily, is expected to launch in coming weeks but will focus on general daily news and carry a weekly subscription.

    Umm... ok....

That has got to come close to the stupidest promo video I've ever seen.

    But...

Wasn't "Slate" the first all-digital magazine? Or does that not count because it was web-based or something?
