Elixir offers free data-publishing XTension for QuarkXpress

Tango QuickStep facilitates variable publishing

Tango QuickStep Studio is web-based data-publishing software that sorts and organizes various forms of information, and now allows variable graphic and text elements to be dropped directly into QuarkXpress layouts without leaving QuarkXpress, thanks to a free XTension released today. The XTension works with QuarkXpress v8 and currently requires 32-bit mode (a 64-bit version will be released soon, according to Elixir Technologies, the developer).

Variable-data publishing such as customized brochures or up-to-the-minute annual reports have become a staple of high-end retail, and allowing designers to drag data, graphics, or text in from other sources -- with rules and logic applied to keep the look and layout consistent -- without having to leave their designing program allows great efficiency in making personal publications that target the group or individual with variables based on their own habits, past buying or preferences.

The Xtension comes with two sample layouts and tutorials to show off the process.
