Sony moved 4.1m Move controllers since launch

Following up on Microsoft's announcement that it has sold 2.5 million Kinect body motion controllers for the Xbox 360, Sony revealed that it managed to sell 4.1 million Move controllers for its PS3 since the add-on launched in September. It didn't say how many of these were attached to PS3 bundles versus stand-alone consoles.

The results are theoretically favorable versus the Wii. Nintendo, the pioneer for motion gaming, said it sold 600,000 Wiis in just one week.

Sales of each peripheral or system don't carry the same weight due to their nature, however. Sony, for example, needs to sell one Move controller for every player, while one Microsoft Kinect peripheral supports up to two players at the same time. Likewise, every Wii counts as a motion control gamer but only ships with one controller, with each additional player requiring their own.

Sony also had time as an advantage, as Move was introduced two months before Kinect. [via RegHardware]
