IntelliScanner revamps wine scanner, now integrates store

updated 02:55 am EST, Tue November 30, 2010

Organizes, identifies wine, optimal drinking times

IntelliScanner have unveiled a new and improved rechargeable smart barcode scanner for wine collectors and enthusiasts, the Wine Collector 400, which features a memory capacity of up to 500 barcodes and integrates a wine store powered by Wine.com into the cellar-management software. The built-in memory capacity means that bottles can be scanned where they are stored rather than brought to the computer.

The included software features a Virtual Cellar to show where bottles are located, can identify bottles including varietal, winery, country and other details, and includes a maturity indicator to calculate optimal drinking times. The built-in Wine Store features records of what the user purchased and browsing by various wine details, along with direct purchasing. The company also offers a free web-based portal for the iPhone, giving users visual access to a collection while away from home.

Collectors can create paper reports or PDF files detailing their collections, and IntelliScanners offers free web space to post a collection. The kit also included pre-printed barcode labels for those bottles that do not have barcodes on them. The package requires Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later (also works with all recent versions of Windows) and costs $279.
