Delta to add Wi-Fi to all Delta Connection regional flights

updated 08:40 pm EST, Tue November 30, 2010

Entire fleet should have Wi-Fi before end of 2011

Delta Air Lines -- which began installing Wi-Fi on its domestic main-route aircraft in 2008, and have offered service on some regional flights as well -- will add Wi-Fi service to all Delta Connection carriers throughout 2011, making it the first US carrier to provide Wi-Fi on all flights with two classes of service, including Delta Shuttle flights such as the Boston-NYC and Chicago-Washington DC routes.

Delta uses Gogo Inflight Internet service for its Wi-Fi service and will bring the service to its Delta Connection partner airlines, including Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Comair, Compass Airlines, Mesaba, Pinnacle Airlines, Delta Shuttle, and SkyWest. The service usually costs between $5-13 depending on the length of the flight, though customers can buy 24-hour, six-session or monthly passes, all available at a discount from Gogo's web site. Speeds are generally comparable to home Wi-Fi service for most applications.

    Umm, no

They are only installing wifi on 223 regional aircraft. Only those with first and coach class will offer wifi. Those will be ERJ-170s, CRJ-900s and some CRJ-700s. The bulk of regional carriers are single class CRJ-200s, which will not offer wifi in the Connection fleets.

Not sure where the author got their "facts."
