BlackBerry 8980 for China Mobile shows at FCC

A Chinese version of the Curve 8900 that is the 8980 has just been spotted at the FCC. The handset, photos of which are available, sports China Mobile branding on its face, suggesting it's just a Chinese version that is being approved for use in the US. Unusually, however, it has a Wi-Fi radio, and not China's common WAPI variant.

The handset also only supports EDGE networks, which is perhaps the biggest indicator that it won't be sold in the US, especially considering the existence of the Curve 3G model. The handset is believed to be the final version of the codenamed Atlas, and was expected to be released at Verizon in the US.

Its features include a 3.2-megapixel camera, 480x360 display, A-GPS, a 624MHz CPU, 256MB of RAM and a microSD memory card slot. All these are similar to the original 8900. [via PhoneArena]
