Apple explains US Black Friday before sale

Apple has detailed the US discounts it plans to have on Black Friday in advance of the sale itself. The Apple Store will sell all iPads at $41 off, bringing the price of a 16GB Wi-Fi iPad down to $458. The 13-inch MacBook Air, all iMacs and all MacBook Pros will also see their prices drop $101; the discount brings the Air down to $1,198 while the iMac and MacBook Pro will cost $1,098 for the one-day promo.

The iPod nano and iPod touch discounts will be more modest. An $11 discount will bring the 8GB nano to $138, and the touch should drop $21 to hit $208.

Discounts on accessories will mimic those from the Australian sale and will usually range between $5 and $11 for the official iPad case, Magic Trackpad and other mid-priced accessories. The Time Capsule line will see heavier discounts of $21 (down to $278) for a 1TB edition and $51 ($448) for a 2TB model.

The discounts are live on Apple's website and on opening at Apple retail stores.

Shop Apple's online store or its other official Mac retailers to get more discounted pricing.

Amazon still the best place to buy Apple products.

This so called "sale" only brings the price of the top tier hardware down to the price you can fetch them at over at Amazon everyday. And on Amazon you pay no tax and no shipping!

    $11 and $21 off, give-me-a-break Apple!

    Apple makes great stuff...

But damn, they need to step up the game for black friday on pricing. A lot of the discounts are simply about the same as taking off the sales tax. How about some 60% off white macbooks, 35% off desktops any configuration, 40% off all software titles and metal macbooks, 15-20% off iPod, iPad, iPhone. Ok, probably won't ever happen, but how about 25% off everything across the line, that is reasonable i think, and would make their products available to people eager to switch. Heck, who knows, maybe doing a large percent discount could actually boost market share... and stock price.

This isn’t cloths or jewelry; how much markup do you think there is?
