Sideloader gives Windows Phone 7 unapproved apps

updated 12:30 pm EST, Thu November 25, 2010

ChevronWP7 sideloads Windows Phone 7 apps

Following early discoveries proving jailbreaks were possible on Windows Phone 7, a new app has surfaced today that will allow unapproved apps. ChevronWP7 lets users install unsigned apps without the usual block, permitting apps that use native APIs against the rules or whose rough state wouldn't let them reach the Windows Phone Marketplace. The download is simple and is reportedly reversible.

The app needs either the Windows Phone 7 SDK or a registry workaround. It relies on USB to connect to the phone in question and is currently designed only for Windows. ChevronWP7's team warns that the 1.0 nature of the release may exhibit "issues." By the nature of the app, Microsoft and the individual phone makers won't support any modifications to firmware.
